Job Description:


Under the direction of the Education Services Manager, the TES Classroom Teacher works with students in need of learning support in subjects determined at intake and as the student program evolves. TES Classroom Teachers help students make academic progress, while promoting independent learning and self-reliance. The TES Classroom Teacher’s goal in individual or small-group tutoring sessions is to engage students in a discussion of course content, answer questions, and/or explain general concepts in support of an overall discovery-based learning environment. In addition, the TES Classroom Teacher works in coordination with the Education Services Manager and other TES staff as appropriate and directed in addressing multiple student needs.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)


  • Staff TES classroom, supporting the educational needs of students in accordance with TES programming, as directed. Some tutoring work may be conducted off-site, generally at an area school site, as directed by Education Services Manager.

  • In coordination with Education Services Manager, conduct basic educational assessments for GED, literacy and mathematics.

  • Coordinate with Education Services Manager and other TES staff as appropriate and directed in addressing multiple student needs.

  • Communicate, as directed, with parents regarding student progress.

  • Document student activity within department protocols; maintain education programming records as needed and directed.

  • Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities as directed.

  • Must comply with all applicable standard operating procedures and Tribal Regulations. Documents and reports all exceptions/variations/deviations immediately upon awareness.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree, current California teaching credential, and a minimum 3 years’ classroom experience required.

  • Preference for an individual with experience working with Elementary level students.

  • Preference for an individual with strong reading literacy experience.

  • Preference for an individual with experience working with Native American populations. Sensitivity to cultural impacts on educational programming must be demonstrated.

  • Ability to work in busy classroom environment, including direction and supervision of multiple students engaged in a variety of activities.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required, including comfort with and proficiency in public speaking.

  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft Word.
