JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Under direction of the Director of Internal Audit, monitors and audits the Tribe’s casinos to ensure compliance with Tribal Regulations, Federal Regulations, State Regulations, internal controls and standard operating procedures.
Under supervision of the Lead Internal Auditor, the Internal Auditor receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, regulations, accuracy, completeness and conformance to standard procedures or precedent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs assigned audits which provide an assessment of the Tribe’s casinos for compliance with Tribal Regulations, Federal Regulations, State Regulations, internal controls and standard operating procedures.
Audits gaming assets, analyzes transactional risks for the purposes of providing reasonable assurance that fraud or other illegal acts are detected.
Performs audit procedures, methodology and generally accepted auditing standards to review and evaluate: financial and operational records, gaming transactional processes for adequacy of the internal controls and compliance with policies which shall include follow-up audits.
Examines accounting records such as general ledgers, asset/liability records, revenue/expense accounts and source documents to verify that transactions have been properly recorded and are in compliance with applicable regulations.
Based on audit observations, reports the audit findings and any deficiencies identified to the Lead Internal Auditor.
Assists the Lead Internal Auditor with the development of recommendations for submission to the Internal Audit Director for new or revised internal controls for the gaming operation as needed.
Conducts follow-up audits to verify that corrective action has been taken regarding all instances of non-compliance.
Reviews and monitors daily variance reports and briefs Lead Internal Auditor and Internal Audit Director of significant findings.
Assists in audit investigations as directed by the Lead Internal Auditor.
Assists Lead Internal Auditor with the maintenance of audit reports and support documentation as required by the Code of Federal Regulations.
Communicates to the Lead Internal Auditor noncompliant audit findings and as directed generates Notices of Violation for the Internal Audit Director’s review and approval.
Maintains, through continued training and industry reviews, sufficient knowledge of authoritative and regulatory issues governing the Tribe’s casinos, auditing, or other fields as required to complete audit assignments.
Maintains the highest level of professionalism with patrons, employees and external business contacts.
Performs periodic cage counts for verification that the casinos have sufficient funds and that the inventory reconciles to the recorded amounts.
Performs other job related functions as assigned.
GAMING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Associate Arts Degree in Accounting or Business is preferred.
A minimum of two years related experience in a gaming environment.
Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills in spreadsheets and word processing applications.
Organization and project management skills.
Ability to travel to the Tribe’s casinos 40-50% of the time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information which may include technical material, that are appropriate for the intended audience.
Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific regulatory situations.
Capable of producing organized and concise audit reports.
Knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations related to Indian gaming enterprises.
